Sailor Pen Co. was founded in Hiroshima in 1911 and is the oldest of Japan's three great fountain-pen makers. The name comes from a British sailor who showed founder Kyugoro Sakata a fountain pen while in port — the encounter that prompted Sakata to start manufacturing them in Japan.
Sailor is best known for its 14k and 21k gold nibs, hand-tuned by a small team in Japan, and for its long-running Shikiori ink range — twenty water-based dye colours drawn from the Japanese seasonal palette. The Tea Time series pairs slim resin barrels with gold nibs aimed at writers who want a daily-carry pen with character. The TUZU ADJUST is Sailor's adjustable-nib steel-tip line for users still finding the line width that suits them.
