Shussai Pottery (出西窯) is a traditional Japanese pottery studio located in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture. Founded in 1947 by a group of young artisans, it was deeply influenced by the Mingei movement, emphasizing the beauty of everyday handcrafted ceramics. Shussai Pottery is known for its simple yet elegant designs, rich glazes, and practical forms that blend seamlessly into daily life. The studio continues to uphold the philosophy of “用の美” (yo no bi), or “beauty in utility,” creating pieces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
